Fri, 21 Nov 2008 13:52:02 PST- The way Miami expected to handle Georgia Tech's triple option offense was by playing what's called "assignment football," a fancy way of saying each defender must manage a specific responsibility. Didn't happen. So Miami's next assignment? Maybe it'll be packing for Orlando or Jacksonville, because a trip to the Champs Sports or Gator bowls could be the Hurricanes' most realistic postseason...
Thu, 20 Nov 2008 21:55:58 PST-This is the way they draw up the triple option. Ruining Miami's return to national prominence, Georgia Tech ran for a staggering 472 yards -- the second-most ever allowed by the Hurricanes -- and romped to a 41-23 victory Thursday that gives the Yellow Jackets a chance to pull out an Atlantic Coast Conference divisional title that no one seems eager to win.
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 22:32:04 PST- Considering when the season began most saw Miami as a third-place team at best in the division and even possibly a fourth-place club, the Hurricanes find themselves in a very surprising position. With their win over Virginia Tech and North Carolina's subsequent loss to Maryland, the Hurricanes (7-3, 4-2 ACC) can get the Coastal Division's berth in the ACC Championship game by winning their remaining two games against Georgia Tech and North Carolina State. That is far from a given, of course, especially with both of them on the road. "We have to make sure we stay focused and concentrate on the game and not anything else," coach Randy Shannon said as the Hurricanes, ranked (23rd) for the first time since early 2006, began preparations for the Yellow Jackets. ...
Tue, 18 Nov 2008 14:31:32 PST-Only the most ardent Miami fan probably knows who Bobby Revilla is. He won't score a touchdown, do any coaching or make any tackles, but he's an especially popular and important member of the Hurricanes' staff this week. Revilla is the Hurricanes' equipment manager. That's right: He's the keeper of the cold-weather gear.
Mon, 17 Nov 2008 09:03:00 PST- Two Hurricanes were honored as ACC players of the week following the team's victory over Virginia Tech:...
Mon, 17 Nov 2008 01:32:07 PST-The news that Miami was among the AP Top 25 for the first time in more than two years was received somewhat less than warmly by Hurricanes coach Randy Shannon. "It really doesn't matter," Shannon said Sunday. See, if it's not in the game plan for Georgia Tech, it's not relevant to Shannon this week. But whether Shannon likes it or not, voters are taking notice of the Hurricanes (7-3, 4-2), whose...
Sat, 15 Nov 2008 16:10:46 PST-With help from Maryland, Miami now controls its own fate in the quest to win the Atlantic Coast Conference for the first time. The Hurricanes' most notable result of the season came Saturday, without Miami even taking the field. Maryland's 17-15 win over North Carolina dropped the Tar Heels a full game behind the Hurricanes in the ACC Coastal Division standings, leaving Miami alone in the top spot.

Shortly after the final play, Miami's seniors gathered at midfield for a group picture, representing their final moments together on the Hurricanes' home turf. They might have to do it again on New Year's Night. Improbable as it seemed a month ago, the Hurricanes are very much in the hunt for an Orange Bowl berth.

Tue, 11 Nov 2008 07:28:45 PST-Miami left tackle Jason Fox is listed as doubtful for Thursday night's Atlantic Coast Conference game against Virginia Tech. Fox sprained his right ankle in Miami's win over Virginia on Nov. 1 and has been unable to practice fully since. The 6-foot-7, 307-pound Fox is considered Miami's top lineman. If Fox cannot play, Reggie Youngblood will likely start, with Chris Rutledge starting at right tackle.
